N is for New Year!
Well we made it through the first week of 2018, with bitter cold temperatures, and the first blizzard of the season! As we all struggle to turn 7’s into 8’s, it’s time to take a look at all the great things Chive New England has planned for the upcoming year!
Let’s start by wrapping up 2017. Man what a year! 2017 was a year of trial and tribulations; encompassing a lot of changes, new events, and new faces. Like any big merger, things take time and this year we merged state Facebook groups into one Chive New England Facebook group (make sure you join!). This was the last piece in bringing all the state chapters together into one awesome Chive New England Chapter. We rolled out some great new events: we put Chivers on a bus and drove them around to get drunk, all in the name of charity, at our Charity Brew Bus Tour and enjoyed a meal together at our first ever Friendsgiving event!
We participated in ChiveFit and the ChiveK, and some of our awesome members travelled all around to other national events. We crushed our annual Chive Rocks Event, raising $8,500 for CASANA. That’s a 61% increase from last year! Overall, we raised
and donated 800 itemsin 2017, including toys, school supplies, and food to feed the homeless. Great job Misfits! We couldn’t have done it without you!
So, What’s new for 2018?!
Branding! We are rolling out a BRAND NEW LOGO! The Chive New England Lighthouse!
New England is home to nearly 200 lighthouses among them are some of the oldest and most beautiful lighthouses in the nation. To sailors, lighthouses are often the last thing they lose sight of as they go out to sea and they are the first thing that greets them as they return home. In addition to welcoming sailors, lighthouses also serve to protect and make sure that everyone gets into harbor safely. As we move into 2018, our new logo will serve as a reminder to Chive New England of what’s most important: making the world 10% happier. You’ll see awesome new swag, stickers, and posts with our new logo coming this year. We hope that when you sport it, you will do so with pride, knowing that you are a part of a kickass Chive chapter! Special shoutout to Amanda Catalano for helping us streamline and create this design!
Unfortunately, 2017 saw the temporary closure of our sister chapter, Berry New England. With the Berry Republic going through it’s own changes and our lovely Berry admins moving on to bigger and more awesome things in life, the chapter needed to take a hiatus. We are hoping to bring it back in 2018! With a promised increase in support from HQ and a fresh set of eyes, we know that Berry New England can continue to provide a safe haven for all the Berries and Chivettes out there. Which brings us to our next important topic: ADMINS!
WE NEED THEM! As most of you know, we had a number of admins retire this year. These amazing folks provided great leadership and poured their hearts and souls into Chive New England and helped get us to where we are today. Though they have moved on in their personal lives and careers, a piece of them lives on in Chive New England and we are eternally grateful for all of their contributions. Your current admin team consists of Nicole Riske, PJ Sarro, Aisa Burke, Amanda (Mandie) Vose, and Erin Smith. We are looking for like minded Chivers and Chivettes to join our team and help us on our mission of making the world 10% happier! The application is for both Chive and Berry Admins and is open to anyone in any state. Our greatest need is for representatives of New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine and Western Mass, and of course theBerry, but we could use strong, talented Chivers all over New England! Want to join the team? Click the link, and fill-out the application! We look forward to hearing from you! Admin Application
You spoke, we listened! We plan to roll out a lot of smaller local gatherings this year, with at least one per month (if not more) rotating through the states. Bowling nights, beach trips, theme park days, sledding; let’s do it all! In 2018 we would like to roll out two new initiatives. The first is the Community Outreach Initiative – having a volunteer event at least once every three months. This could be volunteering for anything from park clean-ups, to soup kitchens, to local hospitals. Are you already involved in a Community Outreach Program? Do you know of organizations or places that could benefit most from our help? Have ideas and suggestions? Slide into our DMs or shoot us an email at [email protected] . The second is the Ostrich Outting Initiative – member driven gatherings all over the region. Having a birthday party? Going on a ski trip? Beach trip? Just want to grab some beers and want to invite some awesome Misfits to join you? Post it in the Ostrich Outting thread in our Facebook Group. You want to go to Six Flags in May? Post it in the Ostrich Outtings. If you have a ton of members interested in joining you, reach out to an admin and we can help facilitate.
We promise to be better about giving you guys as much notice as possible for events this year! Please keep in mind that when planning a larger event, we rely on different sponsors and venues, and their sense of urgency doesn’t always line up with ours. And you can expect with any event that theChive launches, that we got the information the same time you did. Here’s a quick list of what we know so far for 2018:
Jan 15th-Feb 28th: ChiveFit
Jan 20th: Massachusetts Gathering, Tilted Kilt, Boston
Feb 17th: Cupid’s Undie Run, Boston
March: Various local St. Pats Gatherings
May 4th-6th: Chive Rocks, Brunch, and Shenanigans, Hard Rock Cafe, Foxwoods Resort and Casino
July 27th-29th: NY State Chive Camp, Narrowsburg, NY
December: SantaCon, Hartford, CT and Toy Drives
Ok, that was long-winded, let’s conclude this. Chive New England experienced a lot of transition and growing pains in 2017. We struggled, we learned, and we are ready to tackle 2018 head on! Thank you for sticking by us! In order to keep the game going and the dice rolling, sometimes we need to remember WHY we Chive. Life brings drama and stress, but this group constantly reminds us that at the end of the day we have great friends with big hearts. With being such a large group of people, we understand not everyone is going to get along. But we do expect everyone to respect each other in this community, both online and offline. In the end, we all have the same goals as Chivers and Chivettes. We couldn’t do any of this without you misfits!
As always, we are here for you. Reach out to any of the admins personally, through the CNE email, or the CNE page with ideas, comments, questions, and concerns! Cheers to a happy and bright 2018!
-Aisa, Erin, Mandie, Nicole, and PJ
